Westside Elementary's 3rd and 4th grade GT classes had the pleasure of hosting Dr. Thomas Nix, who led an incredible dissection of a cow’s eye. Our students got a front-row seat to the inner workings of anatomy, learning exactly how the parts function to help us see the world.

From holding the eye to asking some truly eye-opening questions, these amazing pupils proved they have a sharp focus for science! It was clear they had their eyes on the prize as they explored eye anatomy close.

A huge thank you to Dr. Nix for helping us see biology in a whole new way. We couldn't imagine a better hands-on learning experience!

Mrs. Wilson’s 4th grade class has been studying how different parts of the human body work. This week, students are learning all about the eyes!

Today, they created a model of the eye to test how it works. Students were amazed to discover that images actually appear upside down on the retina before the brain processes them.

What a fun way to bring science to life!

The Arkansas Department of Education (ADE) is pleased to announce a new partnership with Care Solace, an organization dedicated to improving access to mental health care, substance use treatment and social services. Through this collaboration, all Arkansas school districts will have access to Care Solace’s care coordination services.

Care Solace serves as a central hub to help school districts connect students with mental health, substance use, and social service providers. A multilingual Care Companion team is available 24/7/365 to identify resources that fit each student’s unique needs and insurance requirements, and to facilitate timely appointments. Services can be accessed confidentially using a self-service search tool or through a Warm Handoff referral made by school support staff. Registration and training information for school support staff statewide will be announced soon.
