Westside High School Theater Presents: Steel Magnolias, by Robert Harling The action takes place in Truvy’s beauty salon in Chinquapin, Louisiana, where all the ladies who are “anybody” come to have their hair done. Helped by her assistant, Annelle, (who is not sure if she is still married), the outspoken, wise-cracking Truvy dispenses shampoos and free advice to the town’s curmudgeon, Ouiser; an eccentric millionaire, Miss Clairee, and the local social leader, M’Lynn, whose daughter, Shelby, is about to marry a “good ole boy.” The show, based on a true story, is filled with lots of laughs, but when Shelby ( who is a diabetic) risks pregnancy and forfeits her life, the ladies realize how their own mortality affects the others. Strength, love, and friendship give the play and its characters the special quality to make this show truly touching and funny in good times and in bad.

The Westside Elementary GT Class had a fun filled day yesterday. They took a field trip that started at the nature center where the students watched a movie about Crowley’s Ridge, learned about Arkansas owls and explored the center inside and out. They then went to the park for lunch and play. The group ended the day with a tour of KAIT. While there, they saw the latest technology in television programming, met Ryan Vaughn who explained about how a green screen works and practiced anchoring on camera. It was a day filled with fun and learning!
